2019 - Nestlé Hong Kong CSV Initiatives and Volunteer Activities

2019 Nestlé Hong Kong Healthy Chef Competition

Nestlé is dedicated to providing Nutrition, Health and Wellness to the community. Because of this, Nestlé Hong Kong partnered with NGO partner to organize Nestlé x St. James’ Settlement FOOD-CO Healthy Chef Competition 2019 in July and August 2019.

The preliminary part of the competition is recipe design. Colleagues from Nestlé Hong Kong and the teams from our NGO partner were asked to design a nutritious and creative original recipe, and then set a name for the dish and briefly explain their design concept. In the final round, the group being selected in the preliminary stage joined the "Ultimate Healthy God of Chef Competition" and to cook their creative cuisine on the spot.

There were a total of five teams in the competition and the winning dish was “Fish Fillet with Tomatoes, Pumpkins, Pak Fook Bean Curd and Cloud Ear Fungus”.

The winning dish was arranged to be tasted by colleagues in the staff restaurant at our Yuen Long factory. It was also offered later in September at the Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration for all volunteering colleagues, elderlies and under-privileged families to enjoy and received quite a lot of positive feedback.

Highlights of Nestlé Hong Kong's Volunteer Activities

The Nestlé Hong Kong volunteer team is committed to giving back to society in different ways and actively responding to the needs in society.  In 2019, we organized several volunteer activities, including:

To celebrate family reunion in the Mid-Autumn Festival, Nestlé Hong Kong and St. James' Settlement joined hands to organize “Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration with Low-Income Families” in September and gathered colleagues to enjoy dinner with 150 under-privileged families and elderlies, as well as making simplified version of mooncakes and sharing the lively and joyful festival atmosphere.

In October, Nestlé Hong Kong and Feeding Hong Kong jointly organized volunteer service “Food Sorting and Packing” in order to respond to food waste and poverty in Hong Kong while allowing colleagues to recognize the problems of food waste and poverty. Colleagues also supported in sorting and packaging of the food collected for donating to beneficiaries through Feeding Hong Kong’s partner network.

To celebrate the Winter Solstice, one of the most important festivals in Chinese culture, Nestlé Hong Kong partnered with Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to organize “Community Care for Winter Solstice” luncheon in December in which colleagues and 50 elderlies gathered for lunch and played simple games, delivering care and joy from the Nestlé family to the participants.

Besides, our volunteers attended volunteering activity outside Hong Kong for the very first time and participated in “Nestlé Clean Beach” event organized by our group in the beach of Dongguan City, making practical move to help fulfill Nestlé's commitment to achieve 100% recyclable or reusable packaging materials by 2025.
