2018 - Nestlé Hong Kong’s CSV and Sustainability Initiatives

Nestlé Hong Kong's Eco-Friendly Soya Bean Cookies

As a responsible enterprise, Nestlé Hong Kong has been actively seeking different ways to contribute to the environmental protection of the society.

Recently, Nestlé Hong Kong collaborated with St. James' Settlement to use the soybean dreg generated in the production of bean curd products and turn them into delicious cookies, converting food waste into ingredients and reducing disposal.

Environmental protection and waste reduction require collaboration from different parties in order to achieve a desirable result. Nestlé Hong Kong will continue to communicate with different stakeholders in society, look into different solutions and launch more environmental protection and waste reduction related proposals.

Nestlé Hong Kong's Waste Reduction and Energy Saving Measures

Nestlé Hong Kong consistently promotes energy-saving management, focusing on energy-saving management of lighting, air-conditioning and mechanical equipment, resulting in a decreasing trend of the power consumption in the factory on a yearly basis.

Reducing Energy Consumption

Nestlé Hong Kong has implemented a power saving and reduction plan in our Yuen Long factory, including reception area, office, and staff canteen. We also arranged to turn off the lights and air-conditioning equipment in the above locations during non-essential hours, and replaced factories and offices lighting system with LED lighting systems to reduce power consumption. We have successfully reduced energy consumption in the above locations by 12% since the launch of the measures.

Save More, Create Less Waste, Reuse and Recycle Resources

This year, Nestlé Hong Kong also participated in the Food Waste Recycling Scheme organized by the Organic Resources Recovery Centre, which was established by the Hong Kong Government, to recycle the food waste generated during the production in the factory and convert it into renewable energy. The processed food waste can be converted into compost for landscaping or agricultural purposes. The scheme was implemented in August 2018 which was expected to reduce landfills by about 10 tons per day.

Nestlé Hong Kong X FOODSPORT Community Run

Nestlé Hong Kong collaborated with social enterprise FOODSPORT to organize Nestlé x FOODSPORT Stretch & Run on November 4 (Sunday). The event attracted over 200 staff, their relatives and volunteers to join and help by donating calories through converting exercising into food. The event has successfully raised 130,672 calories of food for the beneficiary organization J-Life Foundation and the low-income families from the Sham Shui Po district, making every drop of our sweat count!
