2020-2025 Nestlé Hong Kong x Hong Chi Type 5 PP Plastic Recycling Campaign
Campaign Background
To promote clean recycling of Type 5 Polypropylene (PP) plastic, Nestlé Hong Kong and Hong Chi Association have joined forces to implement a “Type 5 PP Plastic Recycling Campaign” in the community since 2020. Launched in Yuen Long as a pilot scheme, it is the first recycling campaign in the community focusing only on Type 5 PP plastic, hoping to help complement the existing community recycling network that focuses more on Type 1 Polyethylene Terephthalate (“PET”) and Type 2 High-Density Polyethylene (“HDPE”) plastics. The campaign facilitates citizens to recycle different Type 5 PP plastic used in their daily life, such as the packaging of some Nestlé Hong Kong products and various food packaging and containers. The number of recycling points has been expanded from over 30 recycling points initially to around 80 points at present.
The campaign facilitates public recycling through adding new recycling points and improvement of existing ones. Besides recycling, the campaign also upcycled the collected plastic into daily items, turning waste into resources. It also organized public education activities such as recycling days and upcycling workshops for the community. As the fifth year of the campaign kick started in July 2024, it will continue to strengthen its links with the community to promote clean recycling.
